Cathy Nguyen

Hello. I’m a Toronto-based development professional with over nine years of experience building productive relationships through my work, which includes managing corporate sponsorships and fundraising. Currently, I work at Toronto Metropolitan University, supporting student-facing services and the TMU Bold varsity athletics program.

Born and raised just outside of Vancouver, I’m a second generation Vietnamese-Canadian who came into consciousness on a steady diet of cartoons, 2000s internet culture, and Mi Goreng instant noodles (with a fried egg, of course). I became interested in pop culture, which later bloomed into a full passion and appreciation for visual arts, music and fashion. My love of thrifting and vintage clothes led me to move to Toronto to pursue a Bachelor of Design in Fashion Communication where I learned about marketing, brand management, graphic design, and event planning.

In 2024, I received a Master of Arts in Communication and Culture from TMU and York University. My research focused on social media influencers, postfeminism, and online culture. I plan to publish my musings on these topic and other thoughts on Medium.
